Artisan Learning is beyond thrilled to win a coveted Brandon Hall Group™ Gold award for our project in partnership with the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC). The award recognizes excellence in learning and development in the category of “Best Association Professional Development Program.”
“Excellence Award recipients represent the pinnacle of achievement in human capital management.”
Mike Cooke, Brandon Hall Group™ Chief Executive Officer.
The winning project is actually the first phase of a larger ongoing initiative Artisan Learning is creating for AISC. The “Fabricator Education Training Program” has been described as a workforce development win. It represents a dramatic departure from traditional workforce development for the steel industry, which is typically reliant on shop workers to find time to tell new hires what they know. Such an approach results in costly recruiting and retention challenges.
The entirely new approach, a collaboration between industry experts and Artisan instructional designers, combines video modules, e-learning, and interactive knowledge checks. This level of professional training is out of reach for most independent steel shops, but a significant commitment by AISC made it accessible to all members.
The end result is an expansive (and expanding!) training program that attracts new steel workers, helps them find faster success, and gives association members tools to compete for and retain top talent. This is the fourth, and most significant award for this project which also was awarded “Best in Show” at The Learning Guild’s DevLearn conference DemoFest competition, won a bronze International E-Learning Award (IELA) in the Business/Industry division, and won silver in The Power of Associations Awards, sponsored by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE).

The Brandon Hall Group™ Excellence Awards® are known as the “Academy Awards for Human Capital Management” and for good reason. No popularity contest, entries are evaluated by a panel of veteran, independent senior industry experts, Brandon Hall Group analysts, and executives based on these criteria:
- Overall effectiveness, impact, and measurable benefits
- Alignment to business need and environment
- Program design, functionality, and delivery
- Adoption, integration, user experience, innovation, and creativity
This is Artisan’s second such award, having been awarded a bronze Excellence in Learning award in 2021 from the Brandon Hall Group™ for a course we built for the American Chemical Society (ACS).
Our impact soars when we’re privileged to work with trusted clients–and true partners–like AISC. This significant award recognizes the transformative power of instructional design expertise, in combination with subject matter expertise, and elevated by true collaboration.

“I’m so proud of the teams at Artisan and AISC that are pouring their hearts into this exceptional work. It’s a master class in training for the trades. Most people think of silver when they think of steel. We think gold!”
— Amy Morrisey, Artisan Learning President
